Welcome to Friday’s weekly roundup of our top stories.
With ALXnow, it’s easy to catch up on the latest news in Alexandria. This week, we focused on coverage of our local, state, and federal governments. We also reported a lot of crime, including a homicide in the city’s West End.
Our top story was on the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority launching a Draft Action Plan for a regionally connected Bus Rapid Transit system that could significantly enhance transit options in Alexandria and throughout Northern Virginia. The plan identifies up to 28 potential BRT routes across the region, with several directly serving Alexandria or connecting the city to neighboring jurisdictions.
Our number-two story covered last Saturday’s shooting death of 19-year-old Deaundre Jack in the parking lot of 22 Canterbury Square. A GoFundMe was launched for Jack to help his family cover funeral expenses. No suspect has been arrested, and the Alexandria Police Department is asking for any information on the incident.
Our third top post was all about food. ALXnow released the results of its unscientific poll to determine the top three pizza places in Alexandria. We got thousands of votes, and you might be surprised by the results.
