With dozens of restaurants serving up pies across the city, deciding where to grab your next pizza in Alexandria can sometimes feel overwhelming. To help navigate this delicious landscape, ALXnow turned to the experts – our readers – with the first-ever Readers’ Choice poll dedicated to finding Alexandria’s best pizza.
After two weeks of passionate voting between April 7 and April 21, the results are in! More than 2,400 individual votes (2,459 to be exact) were tallied from a competitive field of 30 diverse nominees, highlighting just how seriously Alexandrians take their pizza.
Emerging victorious and claiming the title is Lena’s Wood-Fired Pizza & Tap (401 E. Braddock Road). Garnering an impressive 613 votes (24.93%), Lena’s captured the top spot with its authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, promising fresh ingredients and wood-fired perfection straight from their custom-built Marra Forni oven.
Securing a strong second place is Andy’s Pizza (107 N. Fayette Street), which earned 446 votes (18.14%). Readers clearly appreciate Andy’s New York-style slices, featuring a unique crisp-yet-soft crust achieved through a 72-hour cold fermentation process with a hint of sourdough.
Rounding out the top three is Stracci Pizza (106 Hume Avenue), with 365 votes (14.84%). Stracci stands out with its Roman-style pizzas, known for a crisp, light, and airy crust resulting from a 72-hour cold fermentation of high-hydration dough baked directly on the hearth.
While these three claimed the podium spots, the competition was fierce. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana took fourth place with 180 votes (7.32%). Other notable spots receiving significant reader support included Mia’s Italian Kitchen, Emmy Squared Pizza, Del Ray Pizzeria, Jet’s Pizza, Bugsy’s Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar, and Fairlington Pizza, proving that Alexandria boasts a deep bench of quality pizza options across various styles.
