Alexandria reports highest ridership ever on e-scooters and e-bikes

Watch out! Alexandria just reported a record number of dockless mobility trips.

It’s been a long road for e-bikes and e-scooters in the city. March (last month) saw the highest ridership ever with 41,452 trips.

“Additionally, the highest ridership days were March 29 and 30, with 2,765 and 2,194 trips respectively,” according to a city staff report. “Since the pandemic greatly impacted ridership, the number of trips taken has steadily grown.”

Ridership in 2024 reached 270,869 trips, finally eclipsing the 249,033 trip record set when the devices were piloted in 2019. The new data will be presented at the Traffic and Parking Board meeting on April 28.

Lime and GCOO are the only companies with permits to operate e-bikes and e-scooters in Alexandria this year. Their permit this year runs from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Lime has a vehicle cap of 600 e-scooters and 100 e-bikes, while Korea-based GCOO is operating in Alexandria for the first time this year and is limited to 500 scooters.
