At Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS), one of the region’s largest and most established human services nonprofits, we believe every child deserves to walk into the classroom on the first day of school feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn. But for many local families, the excitement of a new school year is overshadowed by the financial stress of buying school supplies. By helping families meet this essential need, we can ease financial pressure and give students the tools they need to succeed from day one.

This summer, NVFS is bringing together individuals, businesses, and community partners from across Northern Virginia, to provide new backpacks and essential school supplies to more than 1,500 local students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Monarch Montessori School, located at 218 East Monroe Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia, currently has five full-time infant spots available for immediate enrollment.

Our infant program offers a nurturing and quiet environment for $2,300 per month. Our highly trained, compassionate staff provides personalized care, assists with sleep training, and offers guidance on health and nutritional needs. To ensure more one-on-one attention, our classroom is limited to 12 infants. While younger infants follow their own natural rhythms, those over 12 months transition to a structured daily schedule for meals, naps, and outdoor play.

The League of Women Voters of Arlington and Alexandria City and UpVote Virginia will co-host an “Alexandria Ranked Choice Voting Kick-off” on Saturday, May 16, from 2–3:30 p.m. at the Ellen Coolidge Burke Branch Library, 4701 Seminary Road in Alexandria. The event will feature community leaders, volunteer advocates, and Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) experts discussing how RCV works and how it could impact elections in Alexandria.
