Alexandria Economic Summit set for May 8 to chart city’s future

Alexandria is gearing up for a major economic summit on May 8, focusing on the city’s future growth. Stephanie Landrum, who heads the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP), updated the Alexandria City Council on the event’s preparations during a Legislative Meeting on Tuesday (April 23).

“We’re aiming to engage the community in discussions about economic growth opportunities,” Landrum explained.

The summit will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including business leaders and residents, to shape a new strategic framework and action plan for Alexandria’s economy.

Interest is high, with over 300 people already signed up for the half-day event at the Westin Alexandria. The agenda is packed, featuring a keynote speech, panel talks, breakout sessions, and chances for public input.

Landrum is confident about the outcome: “By the end of this, we’ll have a clear roadmap for economic growth and success.”

Kevin Kelley, an architect and author, will deliver the keynote address, highlighting the importance of physical spaces for in-person business and commercial activities.

In the lead-up to the summit, officials have been busy gathering community input through surveys, roundtable discussions, and public events. A pre-summit survey alone garnered 376 responses.

Key topics on the agenda include equity, real estate, entrepreneurship, and workforce development.

Addressing accessibility concerns, Landrum assured the council that the entire summit will be professionally recorded, allowing those unable to attend to still benefit from the content.
