The City of Alexandria is gearing up for an important discussion on affordable housing preservation on April 29. The event, part of the Housing 2040 Master Plan process, will bring together local and regional partners to address this crucial issue.
According to the City of Alexandria, affordable housing preservation is “the act of investing in existing housing to enhance its long-term affordability, livability, and financial viability”.
Participants can choose to attend in person at the Charles Houston Recreation Center or join the virtual meeting via Zoom. The panel will feature voices from various organizations, including Housing Alexandria, Tenants and Workers United, African Communities Together, and the National Housing Trust. A local residential rental property owner will also be part of the conversation.
The evening kicks off with an open house from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by the main panel discussion and Q&A session at 7 p.m. If you’re planning to attend in person, you can register online and enjoy a light dinner provided by the organizers. For those joining virtually, there’s a separate Zoom registration link available.
Spanish interpretation will be offered for virtual attendees. If you need interpretation in other languages, reach out to Christopher Do at christopher.do@
This event is part of a larger effort to update Alexandria’s Housing Master Plan. The current plan, established in 2013, addresses housing needs through 2025. The new Housing 2040 plan aims to set fresh affordability goals and take a closer look at housing policies, programs, and tools.
