Alexandria Now Has 2,102 Cases of COVID-19

Alexandria now has 2,102 cases of COVID-19, an increase of only seven cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. No new fatalities have been reported and the death toll from the virus remains at 45.

There are no new reported fatalities, and the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Alexandria remains at 45.

Hispanic and Latino residents make up 17% of the population and lead with the highest number of cases in the city with six deaths, 1,154 cases and 94 total hospitalizations and a 61.7% positivity rate of residents tested.

It is not clear how many residents have fully recovered from the virus, and the city is advising residents to continue staying home except for “essential trips such as food purchases and medical care.”

Statewide, there have been 1,477 reported deaths (five since yesterday), and 1,373 of those deaths are confirmed to have been COVID-related, according to VDH. There are now 51,251 cases (48,879 confirmed) and 5,143 hospitalizations (including 31 probable cases).

There have been 146 cases associated with 12 outbreaks in the city, and 145 of those cases have been health care workers. Nine of the outbreaks occurred at long-term care facilities, and at least 15 deaths have occurred at such facilities, although that number has not been updated since the city’s release on May 2. The other outbreaks occurred at “congregate” settings and an educational setting.

Testing Update

There have been 10,811 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests administered in Alexandria so far, and the city’s seven-day positivity rate shows a 10.5% infection rate of those tested. There have also been 1,536 antibody tests in Alexandria. Across Virginia, there have been 381,220 PCR tests administered with a seven-day positivity rate of 10% (and 46,962 antibody tests).

Yesterday, the city released data on the free testing of nearly 3,000 people in Alexandria on May 25. Of the 2,953 people tested at two sites, 236 (8%) tested positive for COVID-19.

“Only 69 positive cases (2% of all testing participants and 29% of those testing positive) were residents of Alexandria,” according to a city release. “The low percentage of Alexandrians testing positive indicates that residents who have symptoms and desire testing are successfully obtaining it through the many ongoing testing sites in Alexandria, including medical practices, urgent care centers, Inova Alexandria Hospital and Neighborhood Health.”

COVID-19 Age and Sex Breakdown

There are 1,076 females with the virus (with 25 deaths and 93 hospitalizations) and 1,017 males (with 20 deaths and 115 hospitalizations) who tested positive for COVID-19 in the city. The sex of nine cases was not reported.

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.

Plus, when you buy a gift certificate from Well-Paid Maids, you’re supporting a living-wage cleaning company. That means cleaners get paid a starting wage of $24 an hour and get access to benefits, like 24 days of PTO and health insurance.
