On This Day in Alexandria History — “On Nov. 10, 1900, the Alexandria Golf Club, located on Shuter’s Hill, hosted its first tournament. Golf course designer Robert White of Cincinnati had laid out the links that fall, and the following year a clubhouse was built. Entrance fees at the nine-hole course were $5 for men and $3 for women.” [Historic Alexandria]

Reminder: Old Town Road Closures — “Alexandria will temporarily shut down the streets surrounding City Hall on Monday as part of preparations for the City Hall Renovation Project. N. Royal Street will close to traffic between Cameron Street and King Street from 7 a.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Parking will also be prohibited on that section of road from Nov. 13-20.” [ALXnow]

On This Day in Alexandria History — “On Nov. 6, 1944, ground was broken for construction of the Alexandria Health Center in the 500 block of N. St. Asaph Street. Before this facility was built, local health department staff worked in basement offices at City Hall. The Health Department moved to the West End in 2004.” [Historic Alexandria]

Freedom House Museum Reopens Today — “The process of rehabilitating the exterior of the Freedom House Museum at 1315 Duke Street began in June of 2024. Now the front facade has returned to its pre-Civil War appearance, helping to tell the story of the domestic slave trade in Alexandria. The next phase at Freedom House Museum shifts to the inside where engineers and preservation specialists will design ways to make the interior spaces accessible to all.” [City of Alexandria]

Dems Swept Virginia Races — “The Democratic victories delivered a sharp rebuke to Virginia’s Republican establishment, which had controlled the executive branch since Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s election in 2021.” [Virginia Mercury]

Alexandria Voter Turnout Hit 53% — In total, 61,174 ballots were cast this election out of the city’s 115,031 registered voters. Democratic candidates had decisive wins among city voters, including Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger (83% of votes), Lieutenant Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi (80.6% of votes) and Attorney General-elect Jay Jones (77% of votes). Polls Are Open — They’ll remain open until 7 p.m. Nearly 30% of the city’s registered voters have already cast early ballots — a notable increase compared to November 2021’s early voting numbers. Tomorrow is Election Day — Most city offices will remain open tomorrow (Tuesday), but local courts, city health facilities, Alexandria City Public Schools and the Department of Motor Vehicles are scheduled to close. [City of Alexandria]

Early Voting Numbers Grow — As of yesterday (Sunday), 29,554 early ballots have been cast in Alexandria — an increase of nearly 9,000 ballots since Tuesday last week. This includes 22,046 in-person ballots and 7,508 mail-in ballots. [Virginia Public Access Project]
