On This Day in Alexandria History — “On March 24, 1925, Alexandria received national attention for its efforts to insure the vaccination of dogs against canine distemper and rabies. The development of pet vaccines had only begun a couple of years earlier and few municipalities had yet accepted that responsibility. But with a large number of dogs in the city, many roaming freely, officials acted quickly to curb a potential public health menace.” [Historic Alexandria]

Deadline for Business Accelerator Proposals on March 25 — “AEDP is seeking a qualified partner to design and administer a new business accelerator program to support up to 15 Alexandria-based startups in high-growth sectors like AI, robotics, aerospace, cybersecurity, and energy tech. This high-touch program will strengthen Alexandria’s innovation ecosystem and support the next generation of local companies.” [Alexandria Economic Development Partnership]

Earlier Cherry Blossom Peak Anticipated — “Cherry trees along the Tidal Basin have reached Stage 5: Puffy White, bringing the District to the final stage before peak bloom, according to the NPS on Monday.” [Patch]

Senior Services of Alexandria Gala Surpasses $150K Goal — “The 58th annual [Senior Services of Alexandria] Gala was centered on a single goal: raising the critical funds necessary to keep Alexandria’s seniors nourished, connected, and thriving in the city they helped build. Pro-Redistricting Groups Have Fundraising Advantage — National Democratic groups have provided nearly $22 million for the pro-redistricting Virginians for Fair Elections, while the opposed Virginians for Fair Maps has reported under $3 million in fundraising. [The Washington Post]

Recreational Marijuana Sales Possible in Early 2027 — “If approved as submitted, retail sales of marijuana could begin January 1. People 21 years old and older could purchase up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana at a time.” [WTVR]
