ACPS On Regular Schedule Today — “All Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) schools and offices will open on time with normal schedules and operations today, March 3, 2026. All school activities and transportation will operate as scheduled.” [ACPS]

Bagel Uprising Expanding to Arlington — “Bagel Uprising, based in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, plans to open its second location at 901 N. Glebe Road in May, co-founder Chad Breckinridge told ARLnow. That’s just half a mile from D.C.-based bagel chain Call Your Mother’s planned location at 4000 Wilson Blvd. Although Bagel Uprising’s announcement comes less than a week after its competitor’s, Breckinridge says he’s not planning on any schmear campaigns.” [ARLnow]

On This Day in Alexandria History — “On March 2, 1867, two to three hundred Black men met at The Lyceum to demand the right to vote as full citizens in upcoming municipal elections. After City officials consulted with President Andrew Johnson and the U.S. Attorney General, it was agreed that African Americans could cast ballots, but that their votes would not be counted in the final tally. To keep the peace, two companies of U.S. troops and a battalion of cavalry were sent to Alexandria as about 1,000 African Americans voted for the Union ticket. It was not until 1870 that the Fifteenth Amendment was passed, granting voting rights to Black citizens.” [Historic Alexandria]

Black History Education Bill Introduced — “Members of the House of Delegates are considering a bill that would allow more students to take Black history courses. More than 400 years ago, a privateer ship called the White Lion brought the first enslaved people to Virginia. That’s part of a legacy that Delegate David Reid thinks should be taught in Virginia schools.” [WVTF]

Low Passenger Count at DCA — “Reagan National Airport recorded its lowest annual passenger count in three years in 2025, even as Dulles International Airport set an all-time record. On This Day in Alexandria History — “On February 25, 1801, the town of Alexandria was formally and legally designated as part of the District of Columbia, the new national capital being developed on lands formerly within the states of Maryland and Virginia. Alexandria remained part of the capital city until the late 1840’s when the land on the west side of the Potomac was retroceded back to Virginia by an act of Congress.” [Historic Alexandria]
