Public Notices on ALXnow

ALXnow and sister sites FFXnow and ARLnow are court-authorized to publish legal notices.

We were a lead organizer in the effort to allow online-only legal notices in Virginia, which has a uniquely vibrant online local news ecosystem befitting the world’s internet backbone hub. HB 264, sponsored by Del. Patrick Hope, and SB 157, sponsored by Sen. Jennifer Boysko, passed with overwhelming bipartisan majorities and were signed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin in April 2024.

ALXnow is authorized by the Arlington Circuit Court to publish legal notices for the City of Alexandria. FFXnow is authorized for Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax, while ARLnow is authorized for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.

Public notices on ALXnow can be placed via Column, an industry standard system for the placement of notices online and in print. Notices can be viewed on our dedicated legal notice section and on the statewide Public Notice Virginia site. Additionally, in the interest of making notices more visible to the general public, we go beyond legal requirements by linking to new notices in our daily Morning Notes post.

The placement system includes templates for some common notice types. For ABC permit notices, please:

  1. Use the template
  2. Select two publication dates one week apart, as required by law
  3. Make sure you’re submitting to the site that corresponds to the jurisdiction in which the establishment is located
  4. You will receive an notarized affidavit from Column several days after the last publication date. Please make sure to submit that to Virginia ABC, as its includes publication-related attestations that ABC will request.

If you have questions before or after placing a notice, please email us at [email protected].
