Firefighters extinguish two residential building fires in Alexandria over the weekend

The Alexandria Fire Department extinguished two residential building fires over the weekend.

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday (March 28), a fire was reported in a four-level townhome the 100 block of Quay Street, which is near the intersection with N. Union Street in Old Town. AFD arrived to find fire showing on the second floor.

No one was home at the time, and the blaze was extinguished within minutes. The fire didn’t extend to the building’s other floors or neighboring homes, according to AFD radio dispatches.

A fire under a kitchen stove was also extinguished Sunday afternoon (March 29) in an apartment in Alexandria West.

The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. in the 4700 block of Braddock Road, which is near the Newport Village Apartments and the intersection of N. Van Dorn Street. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred in a first-floor apartment.

While AFD found moderate smoke conditions in the building’s main stairwell, the fire did not spread to neighboring units, according to AFD dispatches.
