Heavy metal band Metallica swung by a record pressing plant a few blocks west of Alexandria earlier this week.

The band visited Furnace Record Pressing, a record pressing company that’s been in business, which Metallica gained a majority interest in last year.


Alexandria’s Traffic and Parking Board approved changes to major streets, including Eisenhower Avenue, that safety advocates hope can save lives.

Amazon Fresh opened in the Potomac Yard Shopping Center today at 3801 Richmond Highway — four years since the former Shoppers Food Warehouse closed.

“I’m glad it finally opened,” said customer Anita Taylor. “We’ve been waiting almost five years for another grocery store.”


The newly-opened Atlas Brew Works in Carlyle is positioning to be one of the best spots in the city to watch the Olympics.

The brewery and taproom at 2429 Mandeville Lane said it will extend its happy hour deals for prime-time Olympic coverage. This year’s Olympics, held in Paris, are scheduled to kick off tomorrow (Friday) and continue through Sunday, Aug. 11.


No arrest has been made, but the Alexandria Police Department is investigating a connection between a break-in at a restaurant in Potomac Yard and a nearby apartment complex earlier this month.

The incidents occurred in the evening and early morning hours of June 30 and July 1, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
