The driver of a vehicle involved in a wrong-way pursuit into Old Town this morning has been arrested, though two other suspects remain at large.

Around 3 a.m. this morning (Monday), Virginia State Police (VSP) attempted to stop a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Route 1 and Quander Road in Fairfax County.

“The vehicle refused to stop, and took off along Route 1, driving into the oncoming southbound lanes of traffic,” a release from VSP said. “The suspect vehicle did make an attempt to get into northbound lanes, but in the process, struck the raised concrete median. Three suspects then ran on foot from the vehicle.”

Traffic camera video shared by public safety watcher Dave Statter indicates that the crash occurred around Franklin Street in Alexandria.

“The suspect driver will be charged with auto theft, eluding, wearing a mask, and driving without a license,” VSP said. “The driver is also wanted in Maryland for an auto theft in that jurisdiction.”

This is at least the second high-profile VSP chase in Alexandria in the last few weeks. Another chase in late November started in Alexandria and ended with a fiery crash in the Belle Haven area of Fairfax.
