After the drivers of a suspected stolen vehicle in Alexandria refused to stop late last night, a pursuit followed that ended in a crash and injuries in the Belle Haven area of Fairfax.

Virginia State Police (VSP) were assisting Alexandria Police with the stop of the suspected stolen vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, near Duke and S. Van Dorn streets around 11 p.m.

The driver refused to stop, officials said, and during the pursuit the driver allegedly rammed the trooper’s vehicle, causing the VSP car to crash into a power pole.

Alexandria and Fairfax police did not give chase, Dave Statter reported, but VSP pursued at speeds near 125 mph.

VSP said the driver of the suspected stolen vehicle ran a red light , struck a pickup truck and another car before bursting into flame.

One occupant of the vehicle was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital and other occupants suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to hospitals. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The occupants of the car and the VSP trooper were not injured.
