Del Ray’s Christmas tree and menorah lightings are just around the corner.

The annual event will be held at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (2311 Mount Vernon Avenue) on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.


A U.S. Capitol Police motorcycle officer was injured in a crash in Del Ray Monday morning (Dec. 2).

The male officer sustained minor injuries in the crash and the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, according to the Alexandria Police Department. There’s no word from APD on who hit who, and charges have not been filed at this time.

Earlier this year, TD Bank filed to move from its current location in Old Town to 515 King Street, right in the heart of Old Town. Now, however, those plans are being challenged by city staff, saying yet more King Street frontage taken up with another bank would harm the area’s vitality.

TD Bank has filed for a special use permit to open a personal service establishment — a bank, in this case — with 30 feet or greater frontage on King Street.

With nearly 900 existing affordable housing units and growing, Housing Alexandria is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The nonprofit announced its 20th anniversary this week, a milestone for a city where expenses are otherwise high.

Two popular Alexandria parks on the waterfront are about to close for a while, and the city is soliciting feedback on their redevelopment.

Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street) and Point Lumley Park (1 Duke Street) in Old Town are prone to frequent flooding. Both will be redeveloped as the city plans on rebuilding segments of sea wall and installing a pumping station at Waterfront Park to move floodwaters back out to the Potomac River.
