D.C. man sentenced eight months for larceny rampage across Alexandria and Fairfax County

A 33-year-old D.C. man was sentenced last month to eight months in prison for committing a string of petit larcenies at grocery stores in Alexandria and Fairfax County.

The man was arrested on January 28 for four outstanding warrants in Alexandria, nine outstanding warrants in Fairfax County, and 38 failure-to-appear larceny-related charges, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

He was held without bond and was charged with failure to appear for a felony offense, failure to appear for a misdemeanor offense, grand larceny and six counts of petit larceny.

On February 27, he was found guilty and sentenced to eight months in prison, four months for petit larceny with 12 months suspended, and four months in prison for petit larceny of less than $1,000, according to court records. He also faces multiple court dates for offenses in Fairfax County.

In Alexandria, the man was linked to the following incidents:

  • On Oct. 27, 2024, he attempted to leave the Safeway at 3526 King Street with a large quantity of expensive meat and fish
  • On Nov. 12, 2024, at the Safeway at 299 S. Van Dorn Street, he filled a trash bag with a large quantity of hygiene items and left the store without paying
  • On Nov. 20, 2024, he left the Safeway at 299 S. Van Dorn Street, he filled a backpack with a large quantity of hygiene items without paying
  • On Jan. 20, 2025, he left the Safeway at 299 S. Van Dorn Street with a shopping carts with a large quantity of hygiene items and detergent without paying
  • On Jan. 23, 2025, he left the Safeway at 299 S. Van Dorn Street with a shopping cart full of hygiene and detergent items without paying

On Jan. 25, an Alexandria Police Department officer found a report of a suspect fitting the man’s description in neighboring jurisdictions, according to the search warrant affidavit.

He was arrested three days later.

A report in Fairfax County found the suspect fleeing a scene in a gray Nissan Altima, and APD then matched the car with several incidents that occurred in the city. APD impounded the vehicle.
