BREAKING: Three More Deaths as COVID-19 Cases Surpass 800 in Alexandria

Three more people have died of COVID-19 in Alexandria as the city has surpassed the 800 case mark.

There are now 24 deaths related to the virus, and there are now 802 cases of COVID-19 in Alexandria, an increase of 48 cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

There are still 21 COVID-19-related fatalities in Alexandria, and the most recent deaths were three women in their 80s. Most fatalities related to the virus have been people over the age of 50, although the highest numbers of those infected are in their 30s and 40s. There has been one death of a person in their 20s.

Here’s the age breakdown of deaths and new cases in the city:

• 80+     —10 Deaths, 37 cases (One new case, three more deaths)
• 70-79 — Six deaths, 45 cases (No new cases)
• 60-69 — One death, 74 cases (Two new cases)
• 50-59 — Six deaths, 114 cases (Six new cases)
• 40-49 — Zero deaths, 154 cases (13 new cases)
• 30-39 — Zero deaths, 199 cases (16 new cases)
• 20-29 — One death, 106 cases (Eight new cases)
• 10-19  — Zero deaths, 37 cases (No new cases)
• 0-9     — Zero deaths, 32 cases (No new cases)

There have been 340 new or probable cases in the city in the last 10 days alone.

There have been 415 females (with 12 deaths) and 384 males (with 12 deaths) who tested positive for COVID-19 in the city, and it is not clear how many people have recovered. VDH also reported that there are 104 COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Alexandria.

Statewide, there have been 581 reported deaths, which is an increase of 29 deaths since yesterday. There are now 16,901 cases (16,109 confirmed, 792 probable) and 2,416 hospitalizations (including nine probable cases), according to VDH.
