Two more Alexandria residents have died from COVID-19, and there are now 474 cases of COVID-19 in the city, an increase of 12 cases since yesterday.
There are now 13 fatalities due to the coronavirus in the city. The Alexandria Health Department will not release any information on them.
Numerous other localities provide basic information regarding the approximate location and sex of the victims. For instance, the first person who died of COVID-19 in Virginia was a man in his 70s in the Peninsula Health District on March 14. The decision to release information on the victims is solely at the discretion of local health department directors.
“If there was a public need to know we would use the media to announce that there were certain potential exposures and this is what people need to do if they were in that area at that time,” Alexandria Health Department Director Dr. Stephen Haering told ALXnow.
The Virginia Department of Health also reported that there are 60 COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Alexandria, and there have been 1,719 tests administered. The department also revealed that there have been four small outbreaks in the city, three of which occurred at long term care facilities, and the other being an educational setting.
Statewide, there have been 349 reported deaths, and there are 10,266 cases (9,952 confirmed, 314 probable) and 1,659 hospitalizations (including two probable cases), according to VDH.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
