Outgoing members say Alexandria’s Independent Community Policing Review Board is still not functioning

Three years after being established by City Council, Alexandria’s Independent Community Policing Review Board is still not up and running. Now after another delay, the board will have to postpone investigating hundreds of allegations of police misconduct until at least the fall.

It’s been more than four years since the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin. The event sparked international outrage, also resulting in protests in Alexandria where Mayor Justin Wilson and city leaders called for police accountability.

Two teens charged after stabbing in Alexandria’s West End

Two Alexandria teens have been charged after an 18-year-old was stabbed, tased and beaten in a West End parking lot last month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The 16 and 17-year-old suspects were charged with malicious wounding by mob and destruction of property after the May 12 (Sunday) incident that left the 18-year-old victim with a knife wound to his leg.

APD says man who died in hospital parking lot was shot in D.C.

Metropolitan police are on the lookout for this Mercedes (via APD)

The Alexandria Police Department says that the man who died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday morning in the Inova Alexandria Hospital parking lot was shot in D.C. and has turned the investigation over to the Metropolitan Police Department.

APD also canceled the “be-on-the-lookout” alert for the dark gray four-door Mercedes that dropped off the victim at around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Inova Alexandria Hospital (4320 Seminary Road). He was found suffering outside the hospital entrance at around 3 a.m. and died while being treated by hospital staff.

Alexandria Police Department increases West End presence to stem rising crime

The Alexandria Police Department has increased its patrols in the West End in an effort to stem a rising tide of violent crimes, illegal drug use and other crimes.

APD announced last week on social media that it is continuing to address “quality-of-life concerns” in the West End with increased patrols in the area. The department also advised residents to call 911 if they see something suspicious, or the APD non-emergency number at 703-746-4444.

Alexandria Police investigating death in Inova Alexandria Hospital parking lot

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is conducting a death investigation at the Inova Alexandria Hospital (4320 Seminary Road) after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound in the hospital parking lot.

Scanner indicated there were reports of a black Mercedes dropping the victim off around 2 a.m. The man was found with a gunshot wound in the visitor’s parking lot around 3 a.m.

Suspect smashes glass door and steals liquor from Old Town restaurant

An undisclosed amount of liquor was stolen from an Old Town restaurant after a suspect used a brick to smash a glass door, according to staff.

Workers at the restaurant said that at some point overnight a suspect smashed a side door to Mae’s Market & Cafe at 277 S. Washington Street and stole liquor from the bar.

Alexandria Police Department officers are being hailed as heroes after resuscitating a lifeless baby boy after its mother suddenly gave birth in Arlandria last month.

APD officers David Hiltz and Liam Reilly responded to a “frantic” 911 call in the 3800 block of Executive Avenue on Wednesday, May 29, to find that a woman “suddenly” gave birth and that the baby boy had no heartbeat, according to APD.

Officer Douglass Servern and his fiancée, Felicia, were expecting twins, but she was involved in a serious vehicle crash and both children were born prematurely and died shortly thereafter.

Suspect admits to shooting man who ‘grabbed’ his girlfriend in Arlandria

The suspect in an Arlandria shooting told the Alexandria Police Department that he was acting out of retaliation after the man he allegedly shot grabbed his girlfriend’s arm, according to recently released court records.

Jason Allen Johnson, Jr., 21,  is being held without bond after allegedly shooting a man in the knee near an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Executive Avenue on the afternoon of Sunday, May 19.

No arrest after man gets shot in the hand in Arlandria

Alexandria Police say that no one was arrested after a man was shot in the hand in Arlandria on Friday night, May 31.

APD responded to multiple calls for shots fired at around 9 p.m. and found shell casings on the ground, according to police dispatches. Callers reported to police hearing between six-to-seven gunshots.
