The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a shooting this afternoon on the 300 block of Hooffs Run Drive that left one man and the alleged male shooter dead.
Police said in a release that both people were transported to local hospitals and there is no threat to the public related to the incident. In an update around 11:45 p.m. police said the male victim and alleged shooter both succumbed to their injuries.
According to the scanner, the shooting occurred inside the Onelife Fitness (305 Hooffs Run Drive) around 4:15 p.m. Scanner traffic indicated witnesses told police a man may have shot someone in the gym and then himself.
APD spoke with the manager of the gym to get video footage of the incident according to the APD scanner. According to those reports, a man in a red Washington Commanders shirt walked into the gym and then shot a man in a white tank top.
“It looks like one subject in the Commanders shirt shot the other and then shot himself,” an APD officer said via dispatch.
The identities of the suspect and the victim have not been released pending next of kin notification. APD expects to release both identities on Monday, July 1.
APD spoke with multiple witnesses who said that three-to-four shots were fired, and that they found the suspect’s car, a black Lexus sedan, parked in the parking lot of the gym, according to dispatches.
The suspect was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he later died. The victim did not respond to CPR at the scene and was later declared dead at Inova Alexandria Hospital. Two people were also treated at the scene for emotional distress.
