A 22-year-old Alexandria man suffered an “accidental” gunshot wound to the chest in his apartment on Sunday, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
The victim was with friends in his apartment in the 4800 block of Kenmore Avenue in the West End. He was shot at around 10:40 p.m., and the shooting was not self-inflicted, police said.
Reports of a man with a gun chasing someone else at a shopping center along Duke Street led to two nearby schools being put into “secure the building” status, though it later turned out to be a false alarm.
According to the scanner, around 8 a.m. a man rushed into a store at 4349 Duke Street and said he was being chased by someone with a gun.
William Ramsay Elementary School was briefly placed on “secure the building” status earlier today after a person not permitted to be at the school showed up at the front door and then refused to leave.
The school went into secure status around 10:54 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, the school said in a release.
Police brought in K9s and helicopter support for the pursuit of a wanted suspect spotted in the Braddock neighborhood, though scanner traffic indicated he ultimately escaped.
Around 12:47 a.m. police stopped a suspect at 1250 Braddock place. The man was wanted on drug and gun charges.
Alexandria resident David Marshall, 57, has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly assaulting law enforcement during the Jan. 6 riot in 2021.
Marshall was arrested on May 1 for multiple alleged assaults on law enforcement officers and on a member of the news media, according to the Department of Justice.
Police are investigating an early morning shooting at Southern Towers.
According to scanner traffic, the victim was shot in the hand around 2 a.m. in the Southern Towers parking lot. Witnesses told police the gunshot seemed to follow a fight outside.
No charges were filed against a man arrested for a suspected misdemeanor assault and battery on Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray on Sunday.
A passerby called 911 at around 1:30 p.m. to report seeing a man allegedly position himself behind a woman and then rub “himself all over her” on the sidewalk in the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Avenue, according to Alexandria Police Department dispatches.
The suspect in a 2022 West End double homicide pleaded not guilty in court Monday morning, and claims that he killed two construction workers in self-defense.
Francis Deonte Rose admits to shooting and killing construction workers Adrian Dejesus Rivera Guzman, 48, and his stepson, 24-year-old Juan Carlos Anaya Hernandez, on the morning of July 16, 2022 in the northern section of the former Assembly Alexandria apartment complex in the 200 block of Century Place.
The Alexandria Police Department has identified the victim of last Monday’s (April 22) suspicious death as 54-year-old John Andreadakis.
APD released Andreadakis’ name on Sunday, but have answered no other questions regarding the incident. Police said that the cause of death has not yet been determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
