
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is seeking help from the public finding the driver who fatally struck a 70-year-old-man on N. Jordan Street earlier this month.
Police say the hit-and-run incident took place on Thursday, May 9, but the victim, Alexandria-resident James Thomson, died on Saturday, May 18.
According to a release:
At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Alexandria Police Officers responded to the report of an adult male lying in the roadway at the intersection of North Jordan Street and Taney Avenue. Officers located an adult male with an apparent injury to the back of his head. The injured man, identified as 70-year-old James Thomson of Alexandria, advised he had been hit by a car. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury. Mr. Thomson was hospitalized and prior to release, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and later died on Saturday, May 18.
The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
The Alexandria Police Department Continues to investigate the hit-and-run. The investigation is active and ongoing.
Officers with the Alexandria Police Department Traffic Safety Section are seeking the public’s assistance in locating any witnesses, video footage, or information that could provide further information into the cause and circumstances surrounding this incident.
