Old Town affected by power outage and police are directing traffic

There are more than 1,600 Old Town residents experiencing a power outage, and the Alexandria Police Department is directing traffic in Old Town North.

The outage comes after excessive rainfall earlier this afternoon.

Dominion Energy’s outage map says that it could take until 8 p.m. to restore power to the following areas:

  • An outage in the area of Duke Street and S. Fayette Street affecting 136 customers
  • An outage at S. Washington Street and Wolfe Street affecting 627 customers
  • An outage in the southwest quadrant of Old Town near the waterfront affecting 271 customers

Dominion also says it will take from 8 to 11 p.m. to fix another outage affecting 215 customers near the Basilica School of St. Mary in the southwest quadrant of Old Town.

Police are in Old Town North directing traffic, according to a social media post.

“Power outages have been reported in North Old Town and traffic lights are out,” APD said on Facebook. “APD Officers are directing traffic in the area. Please drive with caution and stay alert. Crews are working to restore power which may last until the evening.”
