A planning effort kicking off next year could determine the future of a major transit project in the West End.

Envision Route 7 is an ongoing plan to build a bus rapid transit (BRT) system connecting the Mark Center in Alexandria, through Bailey’s Crossroads and Falls Church, out to Tysons. An update headed to the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission tonight spells out some of what’s ahead for that plan in 2025.

Lauren Johnson-Lavender, a nurse from Mashpee, Massachusetts, died at the scene after the car she was traveling in, a Lexus SUV, was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram at around 5:35 p.m., according to VSP. The Lexus was stopped in traffic, and once hit by the Ram created a domino effect and it then rear-ended a Ford F-150.

VSP said that the Dodge Ram went “airborne.”

The northbound I-395 ramp to Shirlington Circle will be closed tomorrow night, with traffic diverted to Parkfairfax.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said the closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, to 4 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, for rehabilitation work on the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge.

Alexandria’s economy could see a significant hit if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on plans to privatize federal jobs, a local policy expert said, though there’s precedent for this happening before in Alexandria.

Terry Clower, Director for the Center for Regional Analysis and a Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, said Trump winning another term could signal a major push towards privatizing jobs what are currently government jobs.

Alexandria Mayor-elect Alyia Gaskins says voters made the right decision in electing Democrats to City Council on Election Day, and that the city is committed to promoting its progressive values under the shadow of a Republican Trump administration in the White House.

“I can’t predict what the next four years will look like under such unpredictable leadership,” Gaskins told ALXnow. “What I can say is that I’m confident Alexandria elected the right people to lead us through.”
