Got an extra-large pair of scissors handy? There are two ribbon cuttings for local businesses along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray next month.

On May 10 at 10:30 a.m., expect a crowd to formally cut the ribbon at the Dal Ray Farmhouse Market and Garden at 1913 Mount Vernon Avenue. The business opened last month and is owned by Jay Portlance, who also owns Del Ray Hardware across the street.

“Because the Avenue will be hopping that morning with lots of activities, we have gotten permission for our mayor and elected officials to park in the lot behind the Post Office across the street from the celebration,” the Del Ray Business Association said in an email. “While there will be music and activities throughout the day, we know how busy your schedule is, so if you are only able to stop by briefly at 10:30 a.m. for the ribbon cutting, we would love to see you.”

The grand opening of Children’s House Montessori School — Del Ray (104 Hume Avenue) will be at 8:30 a.m. the following Saturday, May 17.

According to DRBA:

Mayor Gaskins will cut the ribbon right at 8:30 a.m. so she and Council can get down to City Hall for their May public hearing.  The community will be invited to stay for the celebration from 8:15 – 10:30 a.m. to explore CHMS’s stunning, completely renovated campus and meet staff and current families. There will be children’s activities, refreshments, and tours, to commemorate this special occasion! To help the school be prepared, if you are able to attend on May 17th ,  please RSVP to https://CHMSgrandopening.eventbrite.com/?aff=drba
