The day kicked off bright and early with the inaugural PNC Alexandria Half Marathon, 5k, & Kid’s Dash hitting the streets of Old Town at 7 a.m. Expect road closures and plenty of cheering as participants race through historic streets and along the scenic George Washington Parkway. Whether you’re running or spectating, it’s set to bring high energy to the city center.

Market Fresh & Bookish Finds If racing isn’t your speed, the markets are calling. Grab fresh produce and local goods at the West End Farmers Market (8:30 a.m. at Brenman Park) or the Four Mile Run Farmers’ Market (9 a.m. at Four Mile Run Park). Book lovers, don’t miss the Old Town Book Fair kicking off at 10 a.m. at Morrison House, offering a treasure trove for adult readers. Later, the Burke Branch Library hosts its Friends of the Library Book Sale starting at 1 p.m.

Afternoon Adventures & Ales The afternoon offers a diverse mix. Get creative with Groovy Cookie Decorating at Lost Boy Cider (1 p.m.) or a Dried Floral Gold Hoop Workshop at PlantHouse (1:30 p.m.). Culture & Comedy Step back in time with Jane Austen: Music and Dance at The Lyceum at 3 p.m., or catch an unusual film screening with Alexandria Oddball Cinema’s “Violet & Daisy” at the Burke Branch Library at 2 p.m. For bird watchers, there’s a Warblerpalooza walk at Jones Point Park starting at 8 a.m.

Evening Entertainment As the day winds down, the city’s nightlife ramps up. Live music options abound, including Ian Conor at Daniel O’Connell’s (5 p.m.), the Walt Johnson Trio at Laporta’s (6 p.m.), Rock Del Ray at No. 9 Lounge (6 p.m.), and Kev Powe Thang at 219 Restaurant (9 p.m.).
