Developers are planning to host an online meeting next week to update the public on plans to build a large new health center at the heart of the redeveloping Oakville Triangle.
Stonebridge and Inova Health Systems held meetings earlier this year discussing proposed plans to build a “Inova HealthPlex” — which will have emergency room services, an outpatient care center and medical offices. The developers gathered community feedback and submitted concept development applications.

Updated at 10 p.m. on Nov. 5: Alexandria City Public Schools partially reopened today (Nov. 5) for less than 10 students with disabilities, and Superintendent Gregory Hutchings, Jr. told parents that this is but the first step of the reopening process.
When asked on social media how many students attended, ACPS responded that it was fewer than 10 students.
A driver suffered a life-threatening medical emergency on Quaker Lane near Fairlington this morning (Nov. 5), and while there was no crash, the incident shut down the roadway from around 8 a.m. to – 9:30 a.m.
The roadway going northbound was shut down due to the number of first responders and police at the scene, according to Alexandria Police spokesman Lt. Courtney Ballantine.

As Alexandria City Public Schools prepares to partially reopen its elementary schools to special needs students on November 5, more than 400 parents are coordinating a new messaging campaign to fully reopen the school system.
Parents with the Facebook group OpenACPS! just printed 1,000 “OpenACPS” signs to be displayed in front yards around the city. More than 600 signs have already been given away, said group organizer Kirsten Dougherty.
A 34-year-old Washington D.C. man labeled the Beltway Bank Bandit by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, pleaded guilty to three counts of brandishing a firearm during a series of bank and shoe store robberies in and around Alexandria in 2018 and 2019.
Freddie Lee McRae will be sentenced on February 23, 2021, and faces up to life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 21 years in prison. On November 13, 2018, McRrae robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in Alexandria, handed the teller a note and demanded money, indicated that he had a gun and said he would “kill all bankers” if his directions were not followed. He then pointed a handgun at two tellers and ran out of the bank with $8,750, according to prosecutors.

Initial and continued unemployment claims took a dip last week in Alexandria, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.
There were 123 initial (first-time) claims for the week ending October 24, which is a decrease of 30 claims from the previous week. There were also 125 initial claims for the week ending October 10; 139 initial claims for the week ending October 3; 107 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 26; 125 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 19; 120 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 12 and 155 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 5.
A 17-year-old is on the run after being charged with stealing a car in the West End in the early morning of Saturday, September 19.
The suspect, who was from out of town visiting friends, was followed for a half mile by the owner of the car, who held him until police arrived, according to a search warrant affidavit.
Democrat Don Beyer didn’t waste any time after his reelection on Tuesday to go back to bashing President Donald Trump on Twitter. With his fourth Congressional election for Virginia’s 8th District wrapped up, Beyer says he’s on pins and needles to see the results of the presidential election.
