A new park could be coming to the Carlyle neighborhood; built directly under the tracks at the Eisenhower Metro station

During a discussion last night of the FY 2026-2027 Long Range Planning Interdepartmental Work Program, city staff teased upcoming plans for a new park at the Eisenhower Metro station.


Snow is starting to fall around Alexandria and the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory.

The advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. on Thursday. This snow is likely to be significantly lighter than previous winter storms, with no more than one inch of snow accumulation expected.


In the middle of an uproar over the planned elimination of Alexandria’s K-8 schools, a discussion at Alexandria’s City Council meeting last night (Tuesday) may have gotten the ball rolling for a new local middle school.

City Council member John Chapman asked, during a discussion of the Long-Range Planning Interdepartmental Work Program, whether the City could revisit Long Range Educational Facilities Plan — which spells out plans to improve facilities planning and accommodate the growing student population.

VDOT has a quick warning for locals ahead of another winter storm anticipated later this week: don’t get cocky.

In release titled “don’t let your guard down”, VDOT said crews are pretreating roads in anticipation of a storm expected to run from Wednesday morning through Thursday.


Some Alexandria families are bracing for potential immigration enforcement following a wave of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in his first days back in office.

While there have been no confirmed reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Alexandria, local advocacy groups say immigrant families are preparing for the worst.


Alexandria’s efforts to turn Old Town North into an arts hub has hit some hurdles in recent years, but the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) is making a renewed effort to entice arts and cultural organizations to move into the neighborhood.

The district was created in 2017 but so far, the ambitious plan to fill mixed-use development spaces with arts uses has only had one notable success: The Art League’s relocation to a new 800 Slaters Lane location (technically outside of the bounds of the district) along with a home in the new Muse development.


On Sunday, Alexandria’s Alfred Street Baptist Church announced it would be cutting ties to the Kennedy Center after President Trump purged the arts center’s board.

Alfred Street Baptist Church joins a list of events and shows canceling on the venue. The church formerly hosted an annual Christmas performance at the Kennedy Center.
