It’s been two days since severe thunderstorms passed through Alexandria, knocking out power for more than 8,800 Dominion Energy customers.
Most customers saw power restored within hours, but 489 customers across Alexandria are still in the dark.
The outage came following a severe thunderstorm that hit the area just after 4 p.m. on Thursday (June 19), bringing heavy rain and high winds to the area. Many trees in the area toppled across streets and power lines, making a quick restoration difficult. 8,894 of Dominion Energy’s 70,325 customers in Alexandria were without power around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Those still without power are scattered across the city, with some customers located in Taylor Run, Old Town, and Arlandria.
According to Dominion Energy’s outage map, power is expected to be restored to all customers between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday (June 21).
