Expansion of mixed-use historic home in Old Town heading to Planning Commission

The owners of a historic townhouse in Old Town with ground floor retail want to expand the property with a 700-square-foot addition and use it as their primary residence.

Plans to redevelop 107 N. Fairfax Street will head to the Planning Commission on Thursday, Oct. 9. The four-story townhouse was built in 1800, and is located in the city’s Old and Historic District. It’s located directly across from City Hall (301 King Street), and the first floor is home to dessert and coffee shop Dolci Gelati.

199-unit luxury apartments start leasing in converted Old Town building

Leasing has launched for a 199-unit luxury office-to-residential conversion development at 1101 King Street in Old Town.

Plans to convert the seven-story 1980s-era office building were unveiled in 2023 and approved last year, after which property owner American Real Estate Partners (AREP) announced that leasing would start in summer 2025. Now, the 200,000-square-foot property known as CityHouse Old Town is offering a range of 525-square-foot studios-to-three-bedroom apartments with dens and private wraparound terraces.

70+ vendors appearing at upcoming Second Saturday Del Ray Vintage and Flea Market

More than 70 vendors have signed up to sell their vintage goods at the upcoming Del Ray Vintage and Flea Market on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The outdoor event is held every second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.in the parking lots of Del Ray Psych & Wellness (1900 Mount Vernon Avenue), the Salvation Army (1804 Mount Vernon Avenue) and at the Corner of Mount Vernon and E. Custis Avenues. If the weather holds up, organizer Amy Eggers says she expects a big turnout. She also says that more than 2,000 people attended the market in August.

New audiology clinic opens in Old Town Alexandria

There’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 12 for a new audiologist (ear doctor) office in Old Town.

Northern Virginia Audiology Doctors formally opened their Alexandria Hearing Studio (918 Prince Street) to the public at the end of July. They will hold a ribbon cutting on Friday, Sept. 13, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Fairfax County carjacking suspect arrested in Alexandria

A 34-year-old Alexandria-area man is being held without bond after the alleged carjacking of a delivery driver in the Groveton neighborhood of Fairfax County.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. in the 3300 block of Lockheed Boulevard on Monday, Aug. 25. Virginia State Police located the vehicle in the City of Alexandria and arrested David Lewis during a traffic stop.

Alexandria schedules second Duke Street land use community meeting

The City of Alexandria will host the second Duke Street Land Use Plan Community Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Bishop Ireton High School cafeteria to discuss draft guiding principles based on community feedback.

The meeting will take place at 201 Cambridge Road beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation and question-and-answer session, followed by facilitated discussion on draft principles from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation portion will also be available online via Zoom.

Mount Vernon Avenue restaurant property listed for lease

A commercial property at 1503-1505 Mount Vernon Ave. that currently houses The Garden restaurant is being marketed for lease with availability starting Sept. 1, according to a listing from PVIM LLC, a commercial real estate brokerage based in Old Town Alexandria.

The property features 1,100 square feet of interior space on a 10,706-square-foot lot with 100 feet of street frontage and three parking spaces. The asking rent is available upon request, according to the marketing materials.

Alexandria offers $50 produce cards for eligible seniors

The City of Alexandria is accepting applications for Virginia’s Farm Market Fresh program, which provides eligible older adults with $50 benefit cards to purchase fresh produce from local farmers.

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program offers one benefit card per qualifying resident aged 60 or older. Cards can be exchanged for fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs at approved farmers’ markets and roadside stands throughout the region.
