Update: W. Glebe Road has reopened. 

The Alexandria Police Department has shut down W. Glebe Road between Milan Drive and Valley Drive after a vehicle struck a pedestrian early this evening.

Alexandria police seeking witnesses to King Street scooter crash

The Alexandria Police Department is seeking witnesses and video footage from a scooter crash involving a 16-year-old rider that occurred yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) in the area of King Street and N. Quaker Lane.

APD said that it is asking for assistance as part of the continuing investigation. No information was provided on the victim or how the crash occurred. More from APD is below.

Sandy Marks, chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee, won’t seek reelection

The day after Election Day, Sandy Marks said she felt good, satisfied and tired.

It’s been nearly four years since Marks was elected chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee. After working for months to get Alexandria’s politicians reelected and help secure last night’s statewide Democratic wins, Marks is riding off into the proverbial sunset by stepping down and not seeking a third two-year term.

Alexandria man found not guilty of forcible sodomy and attempted rape in Old Town

A 48-year-old Alexandria man charged with forcible sodomy and attempted rape against a woman in her Old Town apartment last year was found not guilty today (Wednesday) in the Alexandria Circuit Court.

Antuan Bostick was found not guilty after a seven-day jury trial. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. April 7, 2024, in an apartment on the 800 block of N. Pitt Street, when a neighbor called 911 and reported that she heard the victim screaming for help for up to five minutes.

Government shutdown is longest on record as Trump meets with GOP senators

WASHINGTON — The government shutdown has entered its 36th day, breaking the record as the longest ever and disrupting the lives of millions of Americans with program cuts, flight delays and federal workers nationwide left without paychecks.

President Donald Trump has refused to negotiate with Democrats over their demands to salvage expiring health insurance subsidies until they agree to reopen the government. But skeptical Democrats question whether the Republican president will keep his word, particularly after the administration restricted SNAP food aid despite court orders to ensure funds are available to prevent hunger.

Alexandria’s Democrats celebrated a blue wave of election wins in Virginia yesterday (Tuesday) with a night of whoops, cheers and excitement in Del Ray.

Voters and local officials packed Pork Barrel BBQ, cheering on Democrats’ three high-profile statewide wins, including Abigail Spanberger for governor. They pointed to these as evidence that Democratic momentum is up and political tides are turning against President Donald Trump.

Alexandria voters reelect sheriff, commonwealth’s attorney and three state delegates

Alexandria voters reelected Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter, Sheriff Sean Casey and three House of Delegates members in resounding victories.

Running without opposition, Porter and Casey each received 96% of votes. Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-3), Del. Charniele L. Herring (D-4) and Del. Elizabeth B. Bennett-Parker (D-5) also held onto their statehouse seats.

RICHMOND, Va — Democrat Abigail Spanberger won the Virginia governor’s race Tuesday, defeating Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears to give Democrats a key victory heading into the 2026 midterm elections and make history as the first woman ever to lead the commonwealth.

Spanberger’s win was the first in a big night for Democrats in Virginia and around the country, casting new doubts about President Donald Trump’s political strength less than a year into his second White House term.
