COVID-19 Update: Deaths Now at 19, Cases Increase to 591

Another person has died and there are now 591 probable or positive cases in Alexandria, an increase of 16 cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

There are now 19 COVID-19-related fatalities in Alexandria, according to VDH. There have been 10 male deaths and nine female deaths, and the most recent death was a woman. A majority of the fatalities have been senior citizens, although the most infected residents are in their 30s and 40s.

There have been 309 females and 278 males who tested positive for COVID-19 in the city, and it is not clear how many people have recovered. There have been more than 500 probable and new cases reported in the city this month alone.

There have also been six small outbreaks in the city, three of which occurred at long term care facilities. There have been 80 deaths at long term care facilities and seven deaths from a congregate setting, the latter of which includes apartment complexes, churches and private homes.

Here is the age breakdown in the city, according to VDH:

• 80+    — Five deaths, 29 cases
• 70-79 — Six deaths, 39 cases
• 60-69 — One death, 65 cases
• 50-59 — Six deaths, 86 cases
• 40-49 — Zero deaths, 106 cases
• 30-39 — Zero deaths, 140 cases
• 20-29 — One death, 82 cases
• 10-19  — Zero deaths, 24 cases
• 0-9     — Zero deaths, 20 cases

VDH also reported that there are 80 COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Alexandria, and there have been 2,159 tests administered.

Statewide, there have been 448 reported deaths, and there are 12,970 cases (12,488 confirmed, 482 probable) and 1,942 hospitalizations (including seven probable cases), according to VDH.
