A man was arrested this morning after allegedly breaking into the Wells Fargo Bank in the Shoppes of Foxchase in Alexandria’s West End.

APD was alerted at around 6:20 a.m. of a holdup alarm inside the bank at 4601 Duke Street, which is closed for Columbus Day. Video footage showed a male wearing a beige and orange hoodie and walking back and forth inside the bank, according to dispatch reports.

Thirty-eight Alexandria students were referred to court for alleged criminal activity in the second semester of the last school year, and there was also a significant uptick in the number of incidents requiring a police response.

That’s according to a new system-wide safety report that the School Board will receive on Thursday night.

Alexandria City Manager Jim Parajon has hired Tarrick McGuire as Alexandria’s new police chief.

McGuire, the assistant chief of police in Arlington, Texas, has been with that department since 2003 — just three years before Parajon started working in that city government in 2006. There was no mention of their relationship or knowing each other in the release to the public.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested by US Marshals and charged in a hit-and-run that hospitalized a local teen and caused a lockdown at George Washington Middle School.

29-year-old Zsavon Walters has been charged with malicious wounding and hit and run with a personal injury related to a crash at the corner of Montgomery and N. Patrick Streets on Oct. 4, 2023.

The Alexandria Police Department is stepping up patrols and implementing other security measures around the Andrew Adkins development after a pair of recent shootings nearby.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, three people were shot in the Braddock neighborhood near the Andrew Adkins development, including a 15-year-old boy. One victim, Kwakia Frazier, was fatally wounded in the shooting.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is seeking help from anyone who might have information on a very young girl who was seen alone early this morning (Monday) near the Brookville neighborhood.

APD conducted a search of the area around the 900 block of N. Van Dorn Street but said no investigation is currently ongoing.

A suspect in a multi-vehicle hit-and-run in Old Town that put five people in the hospital is behind bars, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, a gray Mercedes Benz traveling eastbound on Franklin Street ran a red light at the intersection with S. Patrick Street (Route 1) and then crashed into two vehicles, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Traffic slowed on Route 1 this morning for a crash involving an Alexandria Police Department (APD) cruiser on N. Patrick Street.

The crash occurred around 10:27 a.m. As of 11:20 a.m., the right lane of northbound traffic on N. Patrick Street was blocked and the eastbound lanes on Wythe Street were closed.

The Alexandria Police Department said a suspect pursued by the Arlington County Police Department crashed at the intersection of N. Van Dorn Street and W. Braddock Road just off I-395 near Fort Ward.

Scanner traffic indicated that the Arlington County Police Department was following up on D.C. police pursuit of a homicide suspect. The suspect drove over the 14th Street Bridge into Arlington on I-395.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said threats making the rounds on social media this week against Alexandria City Public Schools have been investigated and found to be not credible.

A release from APD said there would be a shooting at a school, though no specific school was mentioned. APD said the threats were assessed in collaboration with the Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center (NVRIC), a Fusion Center of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and found to be not credible. Similar threats have been circulating around the state and the country.

A suspect remains at-large after an alleged stabbing in the city’s Arlandria neighborhood at the beginning of the month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The man was stabbed on the afternoon of Sept. 1 (Sunday) in an apartment in the 500 block of Four Mile Road, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
