The Alexandria Police Department is stepping up patrols and implementing other security measures around the Andrew Adkins development after a pair of recent shootings nearby.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, three people were shot in the Braddock neighborhood near the Andrew Adkins development, including a 15-year-old boy. One victim, Kwakia Frazier, was fatally wounded in the shooting.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, two juveniles were shot at nearly the same spot on Wythe Street.

In a message shared Monday evening, Alexandria Police Department Communications Manager Tracy Walker outlined a series of new security measures implemented by the Alexandria Police Department (APD) and the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority (ARHA):

  • Increasing daily patrol units.
  • Continuing collaboration with ARHA to strengthen and support existing security measures.
  • Leveraging existing technology on the ARHA property and in surrounding areas.
  • Enhancing community engagement among residents to address ongoing concerns.
  • Assigning a Neighborhood Resource Officer dedicated to connecting directly with the community to resolve concerns.

Meanwhile, Walker said APD detectives are continuing to review video footage, interview witnesses and more.
