A suspect in a multi-vehicle hit-and-run in Old Town that put five people in the hospital is behind bars, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
At around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, a gray Mercedes Benz traveling eastbound on Franklin Street ran a red light at the intersection with S. Patrick Street (Route 1) and then crashed into two vehicles, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot, and left a dark-colored sneaker inside the car, according to the search warrant affidavit. The force of the crash caused multiple airbags to deploy in the Mercedes.
The victims were treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital, according to dispatch reports.
Police canvassed the area and found video footage from a front door camera of a man fitting the suspect’s description walking eastbound on Franklin Street at around 10:30 p.m. and wearing one dark-colored sneaker.
Police contacted the owner of the Mercedes, who told police that it was driven by their daughter’s boyfriend, Joseph Proctor.
According to APD:
The APD Crash Investigations Unit investigated this incident and has charged 33-year-old Joseph Proctor with two felony charges for Hit & Run – Attended Property Resulting in Injury.
He is currently in the custody of authorities in Georgetown, Delaware, on felony traffic charges, awaiting extradition to the Commonwealth to stand trial. He has outstanding felony traffic charges in Maryland, Arlington County, and with the Virginia State Police as well.
