Lauren Johnson-Lavender, a nurse from Mashpee, Massachusetts, died at the scene after the car she was traveling in, a Lexus SUV, was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram at around 5:35 p.m., according to VSP. The Lexus was stopped in traffic, and once hit by the Ram created a domino effect and it then rear-ended a Ford F-150.
VSP said that the Dodge Ram went “airborne.”

The northbound I-395 ramp to Shirlington Circle will be closed tomorrow night, with traffic diverted to Parkfairfax.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said the closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, to 4 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, for rehabilitation work on the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge.

Hopinka joins the museum for this special after hours event featuring a screening of three of his short video works followed by a discussion with Rebecca Head Trautmann, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art and exhibition curator, along with art-making activities, and time to enjoy Lowe’s work currently on view. Sky Hopinka has been widely recognized for his experimental short films and photo-based works. A MacArthur Fellow, Guggenheim Fellow, and Forge Project Fellow, his work has been shown in major film festivals, museums, and international exhibitions and is in numerous prominent museum collections. Hopinka is currently an assistant professor in the department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard University.
Alexandria’s economy could see a significant hit if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on plans to privatize federal jobs, a local policy expert said, though there’s precedent for this happening before in Alexandria.
Terry Clower, Director for the Center for Regional Analysis and a Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, said Trump winning another term could signal a major push towards privatizing jobs what are currently government jobs.

Alexandria Mayor-elect Alyia Gaskins says voters made the right decision in electing Democrats to City Council on Election Day, and that the city is committed to promoting its progressive values under the shadow of a Republican Trump administration in the White House.
“I can’t predict what the next four years will look like under such unpredictable leadership,” Gaskins told ALXnow. “What I can say is that I’m confident Alexandria elected the right people to lead us through.”

As was expected, Alexandria’s City Council remained entirely blue with the Democratic slate taking all seats against challenges from two Independents and one Republican candidate. Running without any opposition, Alyia Gaskins was also elected Alexandria’s first Black female mayor.

The night will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 64. The southwest wind will decrease to about 6 mph before becoming calm in the evening.
While thousands of mailed absentee ballots remain uncounted, Alexandria Democrats declared victory on election night.
Mayor-elect Alyia Gaskins said that when the provisional and mail-in absentee votes are tallied that the city’s Democratic candidates will make up the seven-person City Council.
