The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is notifying residents about potential measles exposures in northern Virginia after confirming the state’s first case of 2025. Health officials are currently working to identify people who may have been exposed to this highly contagious virus at two locations in mid-April.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has pinpointed possible exposure sites at Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Woodbridge and Fredericksburg. People who visited the Advanced Urgent Care at Kaiser Permanente Caton Hill Medical Center in Woodbridge on April 15 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. might have been exposed.

Come celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s War for Independence with renowned music historians David & Ginger Hildebrand for performances of special period music. The Hildebrands will don period attire to discuss and perform music associated with Alexandria’s sister cities: Caen, France; Dundee, Scotland; Helsingborg, Sweden; and Gyumri, Armenia. Scottish music was especially influential in the American colonies, and once the French joined the Revolutionary cause there were musical celebrations for Generals LaFayette, Rochambeau and other French leaders. This concert event is part of the “Alexandria commemorates America’s 250” campaign. David & Ginger specialize in researching, recording, and performing early American music. Since 1980 they have presented concerts and educational programs throughout the country and abroad at museums, historic sites, schools and universities. Mount Vernon, The National Gallery of Art, The National Archives, and Colonial Williamsburg are among their many past sponsors.

We made it to Friday in Alexandria! Here’s a look at our top stories of the week.

Alexandria’s Independent Community Policing Review Board unanimously opposes proposed changes to its authority to investigate allegations of police misconduct.
Earlier this month, the board opposed ordinance changes reducing its subpoena power, as well as a proposal to let the City Council act as a final arbiter on whether cases are investigated in the event of an impasse between the Board and the Independent Policing Auditor. The changes were drawn up by a subcommittee, which includes Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and Council Member Canek Aguirre.
