The Alexandria Police Department responded to an incident late this morning (Friday) in which a man reportedly shot himself in the leg in Eisenhower West. 

The 43-year-old man told officers he accidentally shot himself while placing a firearm into his pocket, according to dispatches from APD. The man self-reported the incident to police around 11:20 a.m. from the 2800 block of Telek Place. 


A team of professionals in Alexandria has received a top statewide award for its work responding to allegations of child abuse.

Earlier this month, the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) from the Center for Alexandria’s Children received the 2025 MDT of the Year recognition by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Virginia (CACVA) at the Virginia Crimes Against Children Conference in Virginia Beach.

Old Town Restaurant Closing This Weekend — Owners Ralph Davis and son Matt Davis “recently announced that they are closing their eatery at 220 N. Lee St. in Old Town. The final day the restaurant will be open is Sunday, Nov. 30. Ralph Davis is a legendary restaurateur in Alexandria, known mainly for his ownership and management of RT’s Restaurant for 32 years but also for his hand in many others in Old Town and Arlington. Several roads in Del Ray will close tomorrow (Thursday) to accommodate the neighborhood’s 50th annual Turkey Trot.

Closures will be in effect from approximately 6-11:30 a.m., starting at Mount Vernon Avenue between Braddock Road and Glendale Avenue, according to an announcement from the Alexandria Police Department.


A bill to provide elementary and secondary school students across Virginia with free breakfasts is heading back to the Virginia General Assembly.

The proposed bill by Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker (D-5) was killed in the House Appropriation’s Elementary & Secondary Education subcommittee in January due largely to its $29.2 million price tag.


With less than a month until its adoption, city officials are pushing Alexandria City Public Schools leaders to make further cuts to the district’s 10-year Capital Improvements Program, stressing budget constraints.

The $340 million CIP proposal exceeds the city’s recommendation by $54.5 million and arrives during a period of expected citywide budget cuts. Officials underscored the need to limit budgets across the board during a City Council/School Board Subcommittee meeting on Monday night, which followed two ACPS work sessions to fine-tune the proposal.

Alexandria has lifted parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts throughout the city tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.


Dozens of protestors continued their calls for Alexandria to divest itself from Israel, decrying the tenuous ceasefire with Hamas that’s been in effect for a little more than a month.

Standing under the covered stage outside City Hall at Market Square on Tuesday night, members of Alexandria for Palestinian Human Rights and their supporters held a candlelight vigil and sang songs, read poems and asked the city to stop working with companies they accuse of war profiteering.
