On This Day in Alexandria History — “On February 3, 1846, after Alexandrians petitioned Congress and the Virginia legislature, the Virginia General Assembly agreed to accept the retrocession of Alexandria from the District of Columbia to the Commonwealth, if Congress also approved.” [Historic Alexandria]

Office Approved For Conversion Goes to Market — “Commercial real estate services firm JLL is marketing 2051 Jamieson Ave., a 146,714-square-foot office fully entitled for expansion and conversion to multifamily or multifamily over retail. The building, constructed in 2003, includes 258 parking spots across four below-grade levels.” [WBJ]

ICYMI, Sidewalk Enforcement Resumes — “Starting [Tuesday], City of Alexandria residents, property owners, community associations and businesses are required to clear sidewalks, driveways and entrances within 72 hours, due to the storm’s “Level 3” severity.” [ALXnow]

ACPS on Two-Hour Delay — “Alexandria City Public Schools will reopen with a two-hour delay for in-person learning [Tuesday], according to an announcement this afternoon.” [ALXnow]

Solar Projects Bill Advances — “A bill that would set up a framework for siting solar projects that localities could follow and that prohibits the premature rejection of solar infrastructure development has passed the Virginia Senate … Del. Charniele Herring, D-Alexandria, who is carrying the house version of the bill, said that it won’t ensure that all solar projects are approved, but it is meant to weed out bad actors to put local residents at ease when it comes to considering a solar project.” [Virginia Mercury]

Firefighters Extinguish Two-Alarm Franconia Fire — “Engines 210, 208 Tower 203, Medic 208 and Battalion 202 assisted @fairfaxfirefighters on a 2 alarm townhouse fire in the Franconia section of Fairfax County. Crews extinguished fire in multiple townhomes in frigid weather conditions.” No injuries were reported, per AFD. [IAFF Local 2141]

Voter Registration Deadline Today — “February 3 is the registration deadline for the February 10, 2026 Special Election. The application must be postmarked by this date, filed online prior to midnight, or received in person at our office by 5pm.” [City of Alexandria]
