Atlas Brew Works, which opened a new location in Alexandria earlier this year, will be bringing its Oktoberfest celebrations to the Carlyle neighborhood.

The brewery said in a release that it will be hosting an Oktoberfest at Atlas Alexandria Brewery and Tap Room (2429 Mandeville Lane) on Friday, Sept. 20.


The Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park (7 E Del Ray Avenue) is reopening… kind of.

Around a week after the City of Alexandria closed the park at the request of the Secret Service, the City said the park is reopening with a “modified schedule with intermittent closures until further notice.”


Alexandria’s City Council will be weighing up new regulations on short-term rentals this fall, and the City is collecting public feedback on what shape that should take.

Proposed regulations include:


Alexandria City Public Schools is offering bonuses for a number of “hard-to-fill positions,” like bus drivers and math, science and special education teachers.

The employees who already work in these jobs will all get a $1,000 retention bonus in their paychecks next month, according to ACPS.

Monday is Labor Day, meaning this weekend will have several holiday-related closures.

Most offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, but the big one starting tomorrow (Friday) is Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). ACPS will be closed to students tomorrow (Friday) and on Monday.


Expect some traffic near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, because the Alexandria Fire Department and Virginia State Police are responding to a dump truck on fire near the bridge on northbound Interstate 95.

The fire was called in at 12:51 p.m. in the thru lanes of I-95 north. The dump truck is parked on the left shoulder of the roadway just before the exit for Route 1.
