Free Lyft rides will be offered in Alexandria during St. Patrick’s Day weekend to help prevent drunk driving.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is offering its SoberRide program from March 15 to March 17, between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. daily.

Anyone 21 and older can use the Lyft app to get a free ride home worth up to $15. The promo code will be available on www.SoberRide.com at 3 p.m. on March 15.

The program covers Alexandria, other parts of Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Last year, 503 people in the Washington metro area used WRAP’s SoberRide program during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Various organizations, including local businesses and government agencies, sponsor this initiative. Several Irish restaurants in the area have also joined as sponsors to encourage safe celebrations.

WRAP, a nonprofit founded in 1982, has provided 93,936 free safe rides home since 1991 through its SoberRide program.
