Alexandria is kicking off several spring initiatives to spruce up the city as warmer weather arrives.
The City announced in a Thursday release that it will be conducting several beautification efforts around town.
Alexandria’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (TES) is scheduled to kick off “Pothole Palooza” on Monday, March 31. During this month-long effort, Street and Sewer Maintenance crews will work diligently across the city to find and repair potholes along Alexandria’s right-of-way, according to the city.
According to the release;
As the operation moves through the city, residents may encounter periodic lane closures as crews identify and repair any potholes encountered. Weekly updates on where to expect pothole patrol work will be posted to the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services Facebook and X accounts. The Pothole Palooza will focus on major street networks and does not include public alleys or parking spaces.
Once the Palooza wraps up on April 30, residents should report any remaining potholes to the city by phone at 703-746-4311 or through the Alex311 system.
TES started citywide street sweeping on Monday, March 3. This effort aims to keep neighborhoods and commercial corridors clean and protect waterways from debris runoff. Crews will make three passes over about 560 lane miles of city streets, each taking an estimated 12 weeks.
According to the release;
Please observe posted “No Parking” restrictions on street sweeping blocks, as well as any temporary “No Parking” signs posted in some neighborhoods to help facilitate debris removal. In the event of inclement weather, street sweeping will not occur but parking restrictions will still apply. This is because Parking Enforcement follows City ordinances related to official signage, and not the weather.
The city urges residents to use Alex311 or call 703-746-4311 to request additional street sweeping.
Alexandria launches its Gateway Cleaning program on Saturday, April 5. This initiative focuses on sprucing up the city’s entry points, including areas along Telegraph Road, Duke Street and I-395, Van Dorn Street and Eisenhower Avenue, and King Street and I-395.
According to the release;
Weekly updates on where to expect Gateway Cleaning work will be posted to the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services Facebook and X accounts.
The city’s spring leaf mulch delivery program is now taking orders. Deliveries start Tuesday, April 1, and run through mid-June. A half-load (3-6 cubic yards) of mulch costs $65, and a full load (9-12 cubic yards) costs $130. Alexandria residents can also pick up free mulch at 4215 Eisenhower Avenue on an ongoing basis, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
