A suspect remains at-large after an alleged stabbing in the city’s Arlandria neighborhood at the beginning of the month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The man was stabbed on the afternoon of Sept. 1 (Sunday) in an apartment in the 500 block of Four Mile Road, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.


Alexandria is hoping for more authority to regulate the use of autonomous vehicles on city streets.

At a meeting last week, the Transportation Commission discussed legislative priorities for the upcoming year. These are topics that the Transportation Commission is hoping the City’s representatives will push for during the legislative session. One of the big transportation topics on the horizon, the Commission said, is regulation of autonomous vehicles.


With rain expected this week in Alexandria, it might be worth a look back at how Alexandria’s battles with flooding have progressed over the years and what’s ahead.

The region was hit with intense flooding in 2019, which thrust Alexandria’s stormwater infrastructure into the limelight. Since then, the city has invested considerable time and money into upgrading that infrastructure, though there have been some frustrations at slow progress.

Every day at the Exxon at 4001 Mount Vernon Avenue in Arlandria, attendant Ghulam Rabani has fed peanut M&Ms to a squirrel.

“I see him every day,” Rabani told ALXnow. “He loves the M&Ms. He’ll take them and hide them and then come back.”


The City of Alexandria is hosting an event this weekend that will let local drivers get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle and take them for a spin.

The Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chinquapin Park (3210 King Street).

French Toast was launched last year, and owners Beckam Baffer and Justin Wallace are asking the Planning Commission to approve a special use permit to operate in the driveway of 1506 Mount Vernon Avenue.


Kwakai Frazier’s mom says her son had no enemies and was at the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot and killed last Thursday night (Sept. 19) in Alexandria’s Braddock neighborhood. She also says that police carried her son from the crime scene to an ambulance, and fears that doing so could have led to his death.

In a vigil that lasted more than an hour, a large, silently respectful crowd laid flowers, candles and balloons in the courtyard where the 25-year-old Frazier was shot. Frazier and two others were shot, and Frazier later succumbed to his injuries.


Movement was restricted inside Alexandria City High School (ACHS) earlier this morning as police investigated an alleged threat related to the school building.

Around 11:30 a.m., Principal Alexander Duncan said ACHS administration and the Alexandria Police Department (APD) completed a threat assessment and determined the building is safe and the threats were unfounded.


Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt said the school division is investigating threats reported against the local school division on social media.

No schools are currently closed as a result of the threats. Kay-Wyatt said in a message to the ACPS on Monday that the threats were not school-specific and are all being reported second-hand.
