After a long, long wait, the grand opening for cookie shop Crumbl at the Bradlee Shopping Center (3618 King Street) is right around the corner.

The store is celebrating their opening on Friday, Sept. 27 starting at 8 a.m. The Utah-based chain offers a rotating roster of cookies from classics to more experimental variants.

Locals helped Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) hit their goal to collect 3,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need this year.

The backpacks are being distributed by school social workers to students. ACPS said over 30 partner organizations helped raise funds and supplies for the drive.

From the 100 block down to the waterfront, King Street is a pedestrian zone. Now, that zone could be expanding a little further west to the 200 block of King Street.

The pedestrian-zones are closed to car traffic except where King Street intersects with perpendicular roads like S. Union Street. The closure, which started out in 2020, has since become a permanent feature of the Old Town blocks.

Drivers headed to Shirlington will have to take a detour through Alexandria next week, offering Arlingtonians a glimpse at life once Alexandria finally annexes Shirlington.

The northbound ramp off I-395 to Shirlington Circle will be closed overnight Monday night (Sept. 16) and Tuesday night (Sept. 17) into the following mornings next week. The closure will force drivers onto Martha Custis Drive in the Parkfairfax neighborhood.

A developer is submitting a proposal to Alexandria’s Planning Commission this fall to replace a single-family home on Seminary Road with seven new townhomes.

The proposed “cluster” development is planned for 5216 Seminary Road. The development would have seven parking spaces on-site.
