COVID-19 Cases Steadily Increase as Alexandria Releases Phase Three Reopening Guidelines

There are now 2,236 cases of COVID-19, an increase of nine cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The last fatality due to the virus was reported on Saturday and the death toll stands at 49.

The news comes as the city released Phase Three guidelines for reopening yesterday. Under the new rules, limits on social gathering will increase from 50 to 250 people; swimming pools will be allowed to open at 75% occupancy; gyms and fitness centers can open indoors at 75% capacity and recreation and entertainment venues can open at 50% capacity. Summer camps, however, will stay closed.

Alexandria had quite a week, and it’s time to look back as it comes to a close.

In addition to moving into the second phase of its economic recovery, there were a number of important events of interest, including the city council’s passage of an ordinance prohibiting firearms on city property, approved the creation of a police review board, continued expressions of support for the black community in the wake of the George Floyd Murder, and a renewed effort to rename T.C. Williams High School.

Alexandria formally moved into the second phase of its economic recovery today (Friday), and while some businesses are embracing the easing of restrictions, others are taking a slower approach.

Even though there was only one new reported case of coronavirus in the city today, Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson said that phase 2 does not mean that the city is out of the woods just yet.

Another COVID-19 Death in Alexandria, Only Two New Cases

There has been another COVID-19 fatality in Alexandria, as the death toll from the virus now stands at 48. There were also two new reported cases, which is the smallest daily increase since March, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The latest fatality was a woman in her 60s. The death is the first since June 9, when two coronavirus-related fatalities were reported.

There are 10 more cases of COVID-19 in Alexandria, bringing the total number of cases to 2,125, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

No new fatalities were reported and the number of deaths remains at 47. The most recent deaths were a man and woman in their 70s and 80s.

The recent fatalities are a man and a woman, according to VDH health data, and the death toll in Alexandria now stands at 47, with 2,115 reported cases. It is not clear how many residents have fully recovered from the virus.

Alexandria now has 2,095 cases of COVID-19, an increase of 25 cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. No new fatalities have been reported and the death toll from the virus remains at 45.

Hispanic and Latino residents make up 17% of the population and lead with the highest number of cases in the city with six deaths, 1,149 cases and 94 total hospitalizations and a 61.8% positivity rate against residents tested.

Alexandria Now Has 2,070 Cases of COVID-19, No New Deaths

Alexandria now has 2,070 reported cases of COVID-19, an increase of 35 cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. That’s the biggest jump in cases since May 29, when 54 new cases were announced.

There are no new reported fatalities, and the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Alexandria remains at 45.
