There are now 57 reported coronavirus-related deaths in Alexandria, and there are now 2,317 cases in the city, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The most recent death was reported on Saturday, June 27, and six additional fatalities that occurred in April and May were officially added to the death count on Friday, June 26.
A summer learning program all Alexandria City Public Schools students will be expected to attend is scheduled to start on July 6 and will continue throughout that month.
According to ACPS, summer learning will be offered Monday through Thursday from July 6 to July 31. Pre-K through 8th-grade classes are scheduled to run from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. while high school classes are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Class sizes are expected to be around 25-30 students together in a Zoom call.
After extensive drive-thru and walk-up testing at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexandria is preparing to shift the focus toward taking testing to the city’s heavily impacted communities.
Mayor Justin Wilson said in the last of his weekly town hall meetings yesterday (Thursday) that he spoke to the Virginia Secretary of Health’s office about shifting the focus of testing.
There has been another coronavirus-related death in Alexandria and the death toll now stands at 50, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The death of a man in his 70s was reported yesterday, and is the latest fatality since Saturday, June 20. There are now 2,271 cases of the virus in the city, an increase of 13 cases since yesterday. There have also been a steady uptick with 143 new reported cases since Alexandria entered into phase two on June 12.
There are now 2,236 cases of COVID-19, an increase of nine cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The last fatality due to the virus was reported on Saturday and the death toll stands at 49.
The news comes as the city released Phase Three guidelines for reopening yesterday. Under the new rules, limits on social gathering will increase from 50 to 250 people; swimming pools will be allowed to open at 75% occupancy; gyms and fitness centers can open indoors at 75% capacity and recreation and entertainment venues can open at 50% capacity. Summer camps, however, will stay closed.

Alexandria had quite a week, and it’s time to look back as it comes to a close.
In addition to moving into the second phase of its economic recovery, there were a number of important events of interest, including the city council’s passage of an ordinance prohibiting firearms on city property, approved the creation of a police review board, continued expressions of support for the black community in the wake of the George Floyd Murder, and a renewed effort to rename T.C. Williams High School.

There has been another COVID-19 fatality in Alexandria, as the death toll from the virus now stands at 48. There were also two new reported cases, which is the smallest daily increase since March, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The latest fatality was a woman in her 60s. The death is the first since June 9, when two coronavirus-related fatalities were reported.
There are 10 more cases of COVID-19 in Alexandria, bringing the total number of cases to 2,125, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
No new fatalities were reported and the number of deaths remains at 47. The most recent deaths were a man and woman in their 70s and 80s.
