Meet the lovely Polly, a 3-year-old white and gray cat who is up for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Polly came from the AWLA rescue partners in Barbour County, West Virginia and is in need of a forever home!

This girl is a bit shy and timid around new people at first, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“She likes to hide out in her tower and observe her visitors first,” said Shackelford. “However, after a few minutes, Polly is usually ready to come out to socialize.”

Though she may be shy, once this girl warms up to you she’s more than ready for lots of attention and pets! She especially loves having her ears and chin rubbed.

Say hello to Starlight, a 2-year-old pup in need of a home.

This medium sized girl is currently up for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Starlight — just like her name — will brighten up any room!

She is a very social and friendly dog, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“Starlight loves her playtime sessions in the yard,” said Shackelford. “She will chase toys for as long as she can convince you to throw them.”

This girl also loves walks and has very good leash manners! She’s gentle when taking treats and patient when waiting for them.

Starlight doesn’t mind children or other dogs. She deserves a loving forever home that will embrace her friendly and active nature!

Say hello to Dash, a beautiful 5-year-old with very expressive ears!

Dash is currently up for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

This very social and friendly guy is no stranger to young children as he has lived with them before, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“His former owner says that he has wonderful house manners and is crate trained, said Shackelford. “Dash is past the puppy stages, but still has the right amount of energy and is always up for a game of tug-of-war or walk around the neighborhood.”

Dash has good leash manners and is always great on walks, making them enjoyable. He also knows the commands for “sit” and “paw”. This guy is a quick learner and ready for his forever home!

Perry the pup is up for adoption!

Meet Perry, a tan 7-year-old up for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

So, this sweet guy isn’t exactly a pup, but he is one at heart and is in need of a forever home! This guy is as pleasant and sweet as they come.

Perry is comfortable with cats as he has previously lived with one and house trained, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“Perry is also very well behaved in a home and can be left alone for at least 4 hours,” said Shackelford. “Perry has been introduced to dogs here at the shelter and did well with other dogs that weren’t overly rambunctious.”

This sweet guy also loves to cuddle and would make the best couch buddy!

This social and goofy pup is waiting for his forever home. Has he found it with you?

Igor is a 3-year-old pup that is active but knows when to chill and relax.

According to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford, he has vastly improved his leash skills and knows a few commands.

“Igor loves to receive attention from people (and has done well around kiddos, too),” said Shackelford. “He is also housetrained!”

Igor would do best as the only animal in the house. He is great with interacting with other animals on walks and events.

Igor has so much love to give!

Meet the handsome and dashing Nelson! This 9-year-old tabby is up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

This guy has a very expressive face with beautiful green eyes and can be somewhat standoffish, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“Nelson definitely does want to be your friend, he just needs for it to be on his terms,” said Shackelford. “You can usually find Nelson tucked away in his cozy den and if you come hang out with him for a bit, he will usually come say hello.”

He is a very smart cat that loves to play. He loves his puzzle toys and bird watching is a favorite pastime.

With his personality he would do best in a home as the only pet.

Meet Simon, a male white and blue English Spot bunny who is up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Simon is currently in foster.

According to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford, English Spot rabbits are gentle, affectionate and well-mannered. This fluffy guy is all of that and more!

“Simon embodies all of these characteristics… he loves to receive attention and be pet,” said Shackelford. “One of his favorite things to do is lounge on his fleece blanket with his person.”

Simon is also curious with an interest in exploring the world around him.

While not exploring, he loves to snack. His favorites include apple sticks, carrots and hay!

Meet Oscar, a 7-year-old black and white dog up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. This gentle giant is ready for his forever home!

Oscar is a sweet and big boy, weighing about 109 pounds. Oscar is a very easygoing fella that would love a home to lounge around all day in, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“It doesn’t take a whole lot to make Oscar happy — he’d love a comfy bed, some tasty treats, and a little walk here and there,” said Shackelford. “While Oscar doesn’t seem to mind other dogs around while he’s out on walks, we do think he needs to be the only dog in the home.”

Oscar is a breeze to walk and is also very good at letting you know when he needs to go outside.

Bella is a beautiful 9-year-old dog up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“Bella absolutely adores people and will probably bond strongly with her family,” said Shackelford. “We do think Bella will do best as the only animal in the home because she wants all the attention for herself.”

While Bella may do best in a home by herself, she is not too bothered by other dogs while on walks and loves car rides. She is a sweet and snuggly senior ready to shower her forever family with love!

Meet Nena! This girl is a 3-year-old brown and white dog in need of a special forever home.

She can be nervous so a quiet and calm home would be perfect for her, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

“We are unsure of what Nena’s life was like before arriving at the AWLA, but the world can be an overwhelming place for her,” said Shackelford. “We think her home would not have kids or other dogs.”

As Nena still has a lot to learn, she needs space and parents with patience to help her learn. Her checklist of skills to learn include walking on a leash and learning that the outdoors aren’t so scary.
