Meet Rufus, a handsome older dog looking for a home for his golden years.
This 10-year-old dog is outgoing and loves to make new friends, according to an Animal Welfare League of Alexandria volunteer. He is eager to make a loving companion for his next family.
“He enjoys an evening constitutional, meeting new friends in the park, and a weekend road trip (with snacks),” the AWLA volunteer said. “He is ready to learn new skills for treats, chill with a good chew, and keep you company while you catch up on TV.”
Rufus has a brown merle coat and weighs about 60 pounds. He is currently staying in a foster home, and a donor has covered his adoption fees.

Rufus can be visited during the shelter’s regular adoption hours:
- Noon to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
