Alexandria’s DASH bus network is getting a new pilot that could make buses less of a hassle for those who use wheelchairs or scooters.

A small number of DASH buses will have the Q’Straint’s Quantum system installed. The system is designed to help those who use mobility assistance devices easily and quickly secure themselves on the bus. According to the release:

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is responding to a bank robbery at the PNC Bank (825 N Washington Street) in Old Town North.

A man walked into the bank sometime after 11 a.m. and handed the teller a note with a bomb threat, according to scanner traffic.

Two men are being held without bond on multiple charges after allegedly fleeing police, crashing into a light pole and being chased on foot near Alexandria City High School.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9. An Alexandria Police Department officer tried to pull over a 2004 maroon-colored Chevy Impala whose driver had a suspended license, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

As part of an ongoing oral history project, the Office of Historic Alexandria is looking for people to help document the history of Black-Jewish relations in the city.

The project, a collaboration with Beth El Hebrew Congregation, will examine the social relations between the Black and Jewish communities in Alexandria during the Civil Rights era.

Local nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is opening ALX Closet, a new resource center dedicated to helping Alexandria’s children and families get access to necessities in times of need. ALX Closet is located in the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive — aka West End Town Hall.
