At a meeting next week, the Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) will show plans to preserve as 18th century home in Old Town and convert it into a City-owned museum.
The City purchased the Murray-Dick-Fawcett House at 517 Prince Street in 2017.
“The 1770s structure has been recognized as a unique architectural example of a frame middle-class home that remained largely unaltered over time,” the OHA said.
A report said the home is well built but fragile and accessibility within the home is a significant challenge.
Renovations to the building aim to restore it to its original 18th-century design: removing the plumbing and removing an additional kitchen section added in 2002.
Once it opens as a museum, it will feature weekend and monthly tours with daily access to the building’s garden.
The OHA and Glavé & Holmes Architecture is hosting a virtual presentation on the project on Monday, Feb. 24, from 6-7 p.m.
